Vindication: Blood of the Archmage spoilers: every twist, from the Elf Queen to the possessed King
Vindication: Blood of the Archmage spoilers: the old woman who raised Cedric is Elena, the Elf Queen; the King ordered Leon’s death; the Royal Advisor, Lucas, returns as a necromancer in his son’s body and then in the King’s; the witness against Cedric is cursed; and Elena gives up immortality to marry Cedric, who then leaves the Kingdom.
Vindication: Blood of the Archmage is built on reveals: who the master is, who really killed the Archmage, who is sitting on the throne. This article goes through them in the order the series drops them, with the episode number of each, so you can check how far you have watched before reading on. The recap tells the story without stopping at the twists; the ending explained covers the last four episodes on their own.
Part 1: The spoilers of Vindication: Blood of the Archmage in the first half
Spoiler one, episode 1: the Archmage did not go mad. The series shows Leon apparently slaughtering innocents and the Royal Advisor killing him for it, and the old woman who freezes time says the truth under her breath, that Leon sacrificed all his power for ungrateful fools. The full version waits until episode 18: he sealed away a necromancer with nothing but his own life, saving a million souls.
Spoiler two, episodes 8 and 9: Cedric does not smash the statue. Ordered to destroy his father’s image with his own hands, he strikes and nothing happens, and the crowd laughs that he could not even chip it. Then the rock starts rearranging itself. He is rebuilding it, by elemental reformation, a thing only an archmage can do, and the insult to the crown earns him a death match against every mage in the arena.
Spoiler three, episodes 13 to 18: the master is the Elf Queen. The old woman in rags walks onto the battlefield in episode 13 and tells the elven squad to kneel; the Elf Queen’s relic flies to her hand in episode 14 because it is simply going home; the Elf Elder senses elven blood in episode 15; and in episode 18, inside a ring of holy knights and elves, she decides fourteen years of hiding are enough and shows six wings and the sacred mark. Even the elves did not know she was real.
Part 2: The spoilers of Vindication: Blood of the Archmage after the vindication
Spoiler four, episode 21: Cedric loves his master. He turns down Princess Euphemia in episode 20 because his heart belongs to someone else, and tells the Queen the next night that he does not care whether she is an old woman with one foot in the grave or the most beautiful elf who ever lived, she filled every corner of his heart long ago. She refuses him in episode 22, immortality is not something she throws away for romance, and leaves for the Elven court.
Spoiler five, episode 22: the King ordered Leon’s death. Paxton gives his body to his dead father’s spirit, and the thing wearing him takes the King down a secret passage to say the quiet part: the Royal Advisor plotted the Archmage’s death under royal orders, because the King feared a man his people loved more than him. This is the episode that turns the story from revenge into conspiracy.
Spoiler six, episodes 27 to 31: the King is possessed, and the witness is cursed. The vindication of episode 20 lasts three episodes. When Cedric seals a necrotic circle under the merchants’ vaults, the city calls him a thief; at his own inauguration the King names him the true necromancer; and the boy Cedric pulled out of the Flea Street riot, now carrying the mark of forbidden dark magic, swears that Cedric killed his father and raped his mother in front of him. Cedric is stripped of every honor and sentenced to death in episode 31, and in episode 35 he tells the crowd what they cannot see: the soul on the throne is a necromancer’s.
Part 3: The final spoilers of Vindication: Blood of the Archmage
Spoiler seven, episode 36: Frank and Tomas die. Ordered to kill Cedric or lose their families, the two old survivors of House Darrow try to break him out instead. Their deaths are what make Cedric say, in episode 39, that everyone who ever loved him is gone. Elena had already felt his pain from the Elven court in episode 33 and defied it in episode 34, summoning Aelaron, the ancient dragon god, as her mount; she arrives in episode 36, just after they die.
Spoiler eight, episode 37: the necromancer is Lucas, the Royal Advisor. Elena names him in front of the whole Capital, back from the dead and using their greed to destroy them. Spoiler nine, episode 39: Elena proposes. When the crowd asks Cedric to sacrifice his life for their property and he agrees, she tells him her full name, Elena Valaena, Queen of the Elves, and gives up eternal life and her crown to marry him.
Spoiler ten, episode 40: Cedric leaves. He puts down the riot, cuts down the traitor and tells the Capital that his family owes it nothing and that he will never again bleed for people who do not deserve it. The last lines are the mob’s, begging him to take them along. All 40 episodes are free, so if you read this far without watching, episode 1 is a click away.
Part 4: Where to watch Vindication: Blood of the Archmage after the spoilers
Knowing the twists does not spoil the watch, because the series spends most of its 1 hour and 19 minutes on how the Capital talks itself into each betrayal, and that only works with the sound on.
