Part 1: The Sold to the Warlord Born for the Sky ending, explained

The ending turns on a war. With the marriage sealed in fire and the Drusilla scene settled, a third clan enters: the Frostkin, led by Borin and guarded by Frost Dragons. Borin sets up Cassia’s kidnapping with a diversion, and she lets herself be taken, because she already knows exactly what Ravek will do.

Ravek crosses into Frostkin lands to bring her back, and the battle decides everything. In the middle of it Cassia awakens the power sleeping in her blood: she severs the bond between the Frost Dragons and Borin, turns the fight and reveals herself as the strongest dragon caller. The couple’s kiss seals the victory, and the peace that follows is counted in a thousand years.

That is how the series answers the question it carries from the first episode: was Cassia really the dragonless princess? The Proving gave the first clue, when the beast bowed to her; the Drusilla scene gave the second, when a dragon obeyed the queen against the mistress; the ending confirms that the "Northern bride" was never only the merchandise Halgar sold.

Part 2: The road to the Sold to the Warlord Born for the Sky ending

It all starts with the bargain: Halgar, king of a North that has not called a dragon in a hundred years and only loses wars, hands Cassia to Ravek, warlord of the Blackclaw horde. She accepts against her will, with the iron cuff on her wrist and the Blackclaw necklace at her throat, takes the vows and faces the Proving: the dragon that should kill her bows its head, and she is queen.

Then comes Lothar, the ex-fiancé, who attacks her. Ravek punishes him before the whole kingdom and walks through dragonfire to seal the binding. It is the point where Cassia’s heart begins to give, and that is why catching him with Drusilla in episode 13 hurts so much. She answers by claiming her husband in front of the mistress, Ravek starts teaching her to call dragons, and that lesson is what decides the war at the end.
