Part 1: The story of I Rule the Wasteland Harem, recapped

After World War III there is no civilization left: there is a trading post where Wade Ryder swaps scrap for cans of food the merchants underpay for, and there are Jasper and Graham, the bullies who humiliated him in high school and who now have the girls and the supplies he does not. Searching an abandoned car, Wade finds a skull ring on a skeleton’s finger. The ring lights up, and a system from another civilization declares him a suitable host.

The ring’s rule is simple: rescue missions with a clock. If time runs out, Wade dies; if he delivers, the system pays in food, water, medicine and weapons, and shows the affection rate of every woman he saves. The first mission is an auction where two girls are sold as a bundle: Margaret and Kate Grant, daughters of a family that was wealthy before the war. Jasper and Graham bid cans of food to humiliate him; Wade answers with cans, a bag of candy and, in the end, everything in his backpack. He wins, unties the two, and the sisters become his wives.

The ring does not wait: it gives him five minutes to save Sally Quinn, a seductive former actress, from the same two men. Boone pretends to forget the deal, then denies he ever promised anything and orders his armed men to surround him. Jasper and Graham are on his side, and Margaret is hung over the fire.

The rifle settles the first battle, and the ring settles the war: with a weapon upgraded by the system, Wade defeats Boone and the bullies, even after Margaret is kidnapped a second time. By the end he no longer has three wives but four, with Tyra, a queen with armed guards, and he is no longer a scavenger: the guards call him Your Majesty. The scrap scavenger finishes the series as the King of the Wasteland.
