Wade Ryder

The protagonist. A scrap scavenger after World War III, he trades what he finds for cans of food and gets robbed by Jasper and Graham, who humiliated him in high school. When he pulls a skull ring off a skeleton’s finger, he becomes the host of an alien technology that hands out rescue missions with a countdown and pays in food, water, medicine and weapons.

He buys the Grant sisters at the auction, saves Sally with twenty seconds on the clock, builds a house with the three of them and goes to war when the Wasteland gang takes Margaret. He ends as King of the Wasteland, with four wives and guards.

Margaret Grant

The elder of two sisters from a family that was wealthy before the war, sold in one bundle with Kate. She is the wife who takes over the house, boils the chicken soup and has the highest affection rate. The Wasteland gang kidnaps her on the move to Wasteland City, and again in the final stretch.

Jasper and Graham

Wade’s high school bullies. They steal his scrap, bid cans of food at the sisters’ auction to humiliate him, harass Sally and get set on fire for it. In the war they are on Boone’s side and fall with him.
