Part 1: The story of Altarboy YouTube
Altarboy YouTube is the story of a punishment that backfires. Theo Martin, eighteen, comes out and his father, Matthew Martin, leaves him at Sacred Heart, the town’s Catholic church, to be “cured”. The town is small and repressive; on his way out of it Theo is attacked in an alley, and the new head priest, Father Alexander, is the one who saves him.
Alexander needs Matthew Martin’s recommendation to keep his position, so he keeps the boy close as his personal altar boy and treats him harshly. Theo treats him back. After overhearing a nun in the confessional, Theo decides the priest is gay and, when his own confession is forced out of him, says exactly what he feels and what he wants. The priest punishes him for mockery, and then, alone in his room, confesses the same thing while Theo listens from outside.
Theo confronts him: he represses what he wants and pretends to be better than everyone. Alexander rejects him and keeps coming back. The rest of the series is the two of them giving in, a kiss at a time, with the town and the father watching.
The ending is public. Father Alexander declares his feelings for Theo in church, in front of Theo’s father, and walks away from the priesthood. Theo walks away from his father. They leave together.
