Part 1: The story of Abandoned Pawn Unrivaled Dragon King up to the ending

The series title already says where Owen ends up: from abandoned pawn to Dragon King. What the 43 episodes show is the road, and it runs through three decisions. The first belongs to Hayes Hale, who calls his son back not out of affection but because a prophecy says Ellis only wins the selection with Owen nearby.

The second belongs to Owen, in episode 9. Drawn against Ellis in the duel round, he hears his father demand that he forfeit under threat of losing the family name. Owen renounces the Hale name before anyone can take it, and stops hiding the Ten Dragon God Marks.

The third belongs to Akira. Throughout the selection the city called him a lizard; in the duel he takes his golden dragon form, of ancient bloodline, and a fight that seemed decided in Ellis’s favor, jade dragon from Ferris included, switches sides. The outcome of the selection and the Dragon King’s title are left for the following episodes, up to 43.

Part 2: Characters who decide the ending of Abandoned Pawn Unrivaled Dragon King

Five characters make a choice that weighs on the outcome.

Owen Hale

He decides when to stop hiding what he is. The renunciation of the Hale name, in episode 9, is the moment he stops asking for acceptance and starts competing for the title on his own terms.

Hayes Hale

Ellis Hale

He walks into the duel believing he is facing the powerless boy from ten years ago. The jade dragon he receives from Ferris tilts the fight in his favor, until Akira appears.

Ferris
