An archmage, Leon Darrow, saves the Capital from a Bone Dragon and is killed as a traitor by the Royal Advisor in front of his son. Fourteen years later the son, Cedric, comes down from the mountain where an old woman raised him, enters the trials under his real name, and instead of smashing his father’s statue as ordered, rebuilds it. That earns him a death match against every mage in the kingdom, which he survives because the old woman is the Elf Queen of legend.

The second half is darker: the King who clears Leon’s name is the one who ordered his death, the Advisor comes back as a necromancer in his son’s body and then in the King’s, and the Capital that welcomed Cedric home sentences him to death within twelve episodes. It ends with the Elf Queen giving up immortality to marry him and with Cedric walking away from the Kingdom for good. Part 3: The best animated scenes of Vindication: Blood of the Archmage

Episode 9, the statue rebuilding itself out of rock while the arena watches; episode 12, three mages screaming as a column of gold light hits the water; episode 16, the green circle over the harbor and the sky falling; episode 18, the six wings; episode 34, the dragon god.
