Part 2: What happens in episodes 1 to 14

Episodes 1 to 4 set the mountain, the money, and the marriage. Ira's cooking has "surpassed" Chef McFlamb's, so he sends her down for cash and "endless ingredients." In the city, Alex tells Vaughn they have to find the Culinary Guru this time — he blames an eating disorder for wrecking a gourmet's talent — and collapses on the mountain road where Ira finds him. She makes him pay before she feeds him. With Vaughn he remembers the Culinary Guru's food that once pulled him off the street and decides the mountain woman may be a lead. At the Williams house, Evelyn and their mother decide Ira should marry "that eating disorder guy" so they can "snag his fortune" when he dies. Alex arrives to call off the engagement with Miss Williams; Mom presents Ira as the eldest daughter instead. Ira outs the starvation collapse in front of him. "Miss Williams, you've convinced me. Let's get married." She redirects Vaughn's medical-team cash and announces she will be his personal healing chef.

Episodes 5 to 9 are the household and the prize. Alex throws her out of curing him; his staff finish her food and call it the best meal of their lives. Alone, out of protein shakes, he is "tempted to try" leftovers and frames it as testing her skills. She catches him as a "sneaky cake burglar" and charges a cake tax; afterward he notices her heart-racing attraction and that she is "quite pretty when she's not being noisy," then she kicks him out for taking advantage. He and Vaughn put the Lost Ancient Recipe up as competition bait to lure the Culinary Guru and pull in Blake, the Guru's top apprentice, as a judge. Ira hears the prize and says her mentor will be happy if she wins it — the first clear crack in the secret Alex is living with.

Episodes 10 to 14 are the competition and the faint. Evelyn, who called off the engagement herself, decides she has to "win Alex back" before a Culinary Guru cure benefits "that hick Ira." On the prep floor Ira argues for cooking with the heart over flashy spices; Alex privately agrees. Blake arrives with no news of his master ("gone into seclusion with the junior apprentice") and greets Ira like an old colleague: "Hi, Ira. Long time no see." Alex asks how they know each other; she shrugs it off as people meeting every day. The rule is simple: whoever gets picky critic Alex Thompson to eat wins the recipe and a Thompson pink diamond. Evelyn's Michelin dish is "totally flavorless." Ira's stuffed chaotic stew has "zero presentation," then Alex smells a "familiar allure" and wants it anyway. He eats, faints, and wakes to Ira pinching his cheek and Grandma saying only a Culinary Guru could make him eat — "Well, actually, I made that dish." Episode 14 ends with Ira remaking the stew, cutting her finger when she hears he fainted again, and walking in late to Evelyn's claim that Alex already had her dish and is back on his feet.

Part 3: Characters in the 14 free episodes

Ira Williams. Introduced on screen as a "Culinary Guru" apprentice. She empties Chef McFlamb's blue lobster and gourmet tuna, sells a bowl to a starving stranger for cash, gets swapped into a billionaire engagement she did not ask for, and takes the medical team's tip to cook instead of treating. She enters the Culinary competition for a Lost Ancient Recipe her mentor would want, never tells Alex she knows Blake from that world, and cuts her finger rushing a remake when he faints again.

Alex Thompson. On-screen card: restaurant magnate, president of KL Group. A self-described renowned food critic who would rather starve than eat something "wrapped by a raccoon," until Ira's food on the mountain and her leftover stew at home start breaking the rule. He marries her after she humiliates him, still hunts the Culinary Guru with a competition prize, and softens enough to call her pretty — without admitting he needs her.

Chef McFlamb. Ira's mountain mentor. He declares her skills have surpassed his and sends her down to make cash. Spoken name from the English subtitles in episode 1; no separate name card.

Vaughn. Alex's aide. Tracks Culinary competition prep, hired the top medical team, relays the Lost Ancient Recipe plan, and is the one who watches Alex eat again after a year of nothing like the Guru's food.

Evelyn Williams. Michelin-starred chef (host intro in episode 12), Ira's sister, and the Miss Williams who called off the engagement with Alex. She plots the fortune marriage through Ira, sneers at the "country bumpkin" wife, tries to win Alex back at the competition, and in episode 14 claims her dish revived him before Ira's stew arrives.

Williams mother. Pushes Ira into the Thompson marriage so the family can inherit through a "sickly" heir. Presents Ira to Alex as the eldest daughter when he comes to cancel.

Blake. Culinary Guru's top apprentice and competition judge. He cannot find his master, who went into seclusion with the junior apprentice, then greets Ira by name. Alex notices.

Alex's grandmother. At his bedside after the faint. She asks whether he is taking his supplements, says only a Culinary Guru could make him eat, and meets Ira as the wife who "can actually tolerate your pickiness."

One note per episode, in order, from free playback only. Quotes are from the English subtitles shown in the episodes and from the episode audio. Nothing after episode 14 is described.

Episode 1

On the mountain, Ira Williams (on-screen card: "Culinary Guru" apprentice) nails a dish that empties Chef McFlamb's "blue lobster," "gourmet tuna," and "top-shelf shit." He tells her they are "done," that her cooking has surpassed his, and that she should "go down the mountain and make some cash" where the ingredients are endless. "Watch out, world. Here I come." Cut to the city: Alex Thompson (card: restaurant magnate, president of KL Group) asks Vaughn about Culinary competition prep and says they have to find the Culinary Guru this time. He apologizes to no one in particular — "I think God cursed me with an eating disorder for all of my gourmet talent" — and collapses on the mountain road. Ira: "Hey, dude. What are you doing?"

Episode 2

"I'm starving." Ira offers food; Alex would "rather starve than eat something that looks like it was wrapped by a raccoon." When he asks what's in it, she makes him pay first: "Same deal. No cash, no food." He pays, eats, and later tells Vaughn it is "just like that day" — a year ago he was "a skeleton on the street" and "the Culinary Guru's food saved my life." He wants to find the mountain woman: "She might have some connection to the Culinary Guru!"

Episode 3

Back at the Williams house, Ira eyes a jar for pickles while Evelyn asks Mom why they brought "this clueless country bumpkin" home. Evelyn's plan: marry Ira into the Thompson family so that "when he kicks the bucket, we can snag his fortune through her." Mom calls her a smart girl. Ira overhears "fortune" and jokes about her dad kicking the bucket; Mom calls her a heartless brat and orders her ready to marry. "No. I came down to make money, not get married." Mom says someone "poor and provincial" should be grateful. Evelyn shrugs that even someone "as ugly as you" could marry her dad. Priority, Mom says, is securing the marriage with "the sickly Thompson heir."

Episode 4

Alex arrives to call the wedding off because "Miss Williams doesn't seem to honor our engagement." Mom produces Ira as "the eldest daughter of the Williams family." Vaughn recognizes her; she cheerfully announces she "caught him on the brink of starvation" and that he "collapsed right at my feet." Alex threatens her, then flips: "Miss Williams, you've convinced me. Let's get married." Later she spots Vaughn with cash for the "top medical team" treating Alex's eating disorder. "That's easy-peasy!" She tells them to send the doctors home, take the money, and let her handle treatment: "I'm going to be your personal healing chef."

Episode 5

Alex does not buy it. "You know nothing about it. How could you possibly cure me?" He tells her to get out. She cooks anyway, invites him to stop looking "like a contestant on a survival reality TV show," and when he refuses — "It's probably nasty as hell" — she warns him not to come begging later. The staff clean the plates. Vaughn: "Boss, hurry! Come eat! Ira's cooking is out of this world."

Episode 6

Alex claims he is not hungry. Staff ask for second and third plates and call it the best meal of their lives. Ira needles him as a "pathetic, self-important foodie" and wonders if he is drooling. Alone, out of "liquid nutrients" and protein shakes, he stares at leftovers: "Weird. I'm actually tempted to try it." He tells himself he only needs "to test this girl's culinary skills," then calls: "Ira, are you there?"

Episode 7

She catches him mid-theft: "Got you, you sneaky cake burglar." He is "just taste-testing." She is not stingy — he can have it if he pays the "cake tax." A card sums him up: stuffed to the brim, the foodie ate his way into an eating disorder. His heart is racing; he cannot name why. She says goodnight. Watching her go: "She's actually quite pretty when she's not being noisy."

Episode 8

Morning fallout: "How dare you take advantage of me like that?" He apologizes; she tells him to get out. With Vaughn he sets the Lost Ancient Recipe as the Culinary competition prize "to lure out the Culinary Guru," and Vaughn reports they have reached Blake, the Guru's top apprentice, who will judge. Ira brings a new dish for the boss (pay first) and learns about the prize: "That's a great prize. My mentor will be so happy if I win it." "You have a mentor?"

Watch episode 8

Episode 9

Ira tells Alex she will cure him and win the cooking competition. He warns that all the top chefs in the nation will be there and she will be crushed; she asks to try anyway. He agrees, already planning a private consolation prize if she loses. At the venue, chefs gossip that the Culinary Guru's head apprentice is judging and that Alex is bringing his new wife. Evelyn: "That girl is just an ugly and unrefined country bumpkin."

Watch episode 9

Episode 10

Evelyn regrets calling off the engagement now that Ira looks glamorous, then hears Alex's condition is worsening and that a Culinary Guru cure would only help "that hick Ira." "No way. I have to win Alex back." On the prep floor she mocks Ira's spices; Ira answers that real cuisine cooks with the heart. Alex, aside, admits she has "her own insights about food" and sides with her against spice-only chefs. Evelyn snaps that he deserves to starve. Blake arrives to admiration; Alex asks for news of the Culinary Guru. Blake: master went into seclusion with the junior apprentice. Then: "Hi, Ira. Long time no see." Alex: "How do you two know each other?"

Watch episode 10

Episode 11

Ira shrugs the Blake question — people meet every day — while Alex still hopes to find the Culinary Guru. The host announces the prize: an ancient lost recipe and a vivid fancy pink diamond from the Thompson family. One rule: whoever gets picky food critic Alex Thompson to eat their dish wins. Evelyn tells Ira to back down. Ira asks for a big pot and cooks an unorthodox, unseasoned method that draws "unique cooking method" murmurs and open mockery — "No seasonings. Hilarious. She's out for sure" — while Evelyn leans on a "mentor's secret recipe." The episode leaves the room asking whether Alex will taste Ira's dish.

Episode 12

Up next: Michelin-starred chef Evelyn Williams. Alex tries her dish and calls it "totally flavorless," taste buds "on a vacation," and "mediocre" — the worst thing for a chef. He goes dizzy looking for anything worthy of a gourmand. Ira offers her "stuffed, chaotic stew": zero presentation, zero appeal, not even worth a critique. Then Alex catches "this familiar allure" and wants the ugly dish anyway. "If I eat this, I may lose my reputation as a foodie. But I really want to try it."

Episode 13

He eats, and the next beat is Ira pinching his cheek: "Alex, wake up." He asks if she was worried; aside, he likes the idea that she might "have a thing for me." Vaughn notes he was out a long time. Grandma scolds him for skipping supplements; he blames a "sudden hunger pang." She is not buying it: "Only a Culinary Guru could make you eat." Ira: "Well, actually, I made that dish." Alex introduces her — "Grandma, this is Ira Williams. She's my wife now" — and Grandma asks whether she can really make something he will eat.

Episode 14

Ira tells Grandma that Alex is "as picky as a toddler": she finally made something he would try, and then he fainted. She heads back for the competition stew to "cure you." Seasonings go missing; an aide says take more time. Then: the boss has fainted again. Rushing the remake, Ira cuts her finger — "Strange, hearing that Alex fainted made me cut my finger" — and decides "Who needs a Culinary Guru?" She arrives with the stew. Evelyn is already there: "You're late. Alex had my dish and is back on his feet." Ira's last beat is wanting to try "the dish that made him faint at the competition." The free block ends there.
