Part 2: What happens in episodes 1 to 14
Adele is a Gimora orphan who shines shoes and owes ruthless boss Nino. He gives her two days: repay, or Clarissa goes to the lower house and Adele to the coal mines. She spots Cesare Buonaparte — the Duke, wealth and fear in one person — while nobles joke that he is finally locking into holy matrimony. Cesare would rather die. The trap is Lucrecia Delavale: a public ancient marriage pact he suspects her broke family invented. His loophole is a long-lost sister who can marry into the Delavale line instead of him.
Adele volunteers. Cesare mocks her looks, then interrogates: no family, about twenty, Gimora birthdays do not exist. He refuses to house street rats — until a familiar birthmark. Matching marks become Buonaparte proof and a hard manor deadline. Adele tries to run with Clarissa first; Nino's men catch her. Cesare shrugs that he can find another girl. Then Nino beats Adele and refuses hospital care while Clarissa gasps through an asthma attack. Cesare's men arrive. Clarissa goes to hospital; Nino and his associates are killed. Cesare tells Adele he did not save her — he eliminated the competition.
She wakes at the manor. Nino is dead in a 'tragic fire.' Clarissa is comatose at Santinari's best hospital. Whether Clarissa lives depends on Adele being a good doll for House Buonaparte. The mission: seduce and marry Lord Esdra Della Valle, sole Delavale heir, within one month before Cesare's thirtieth-birthday debut. Cover identity: Lady Adelaide Buonaparte, illegitimate child raised overseas. Pratelo and Sorella. Do not fall in love. Madam Flavia will drill etiquette. In the bath, bruises show; Cesare nods the contract forward — and privately plans that the day Adele marries Esdra is the day she dies, so the secret never walks free.
Flavia arrives disgusted by the street rat; Adele argues the Duke's choice and wins afternoon lessons that will make her beg for Gimora. Cesare pulls her into his bedroom for an 'innocent' brother-sister talk, needles her virginity and wedding-night skills, and offers to show her. She calls it inappropriate even for fakes and says he sounds like the men in the slums. He sends her to dress for sister breakfast. After a long appearance ritual, Lady Adelaide sits; Cesare stares; Flavia, he says, has her work cut out. The free block ends there.
Part 3: Characters in the 14 free episodes
Adele / Lady Adelaide Buonaparte. Gimora orphan and shoeshiner who owes Nino; volunteers as Cesare's half-sister to save Clarissa and escape poverty. Mouthy under pressure — compares a Duke to slum men — and still green about high-society performance.
Cesare Buonaparte. The Duke of Santinari: would rather die than marry Lucrecia under the public pact; builds the sister con; kills Nino as 'competition'; holds Clarissa's hospital bed as leverage; plans to silence Adele after she marries Esdra. Not a soft rescuer.
Nino. Ruthless boss of Gimora shoe-shiners; two-day ultimatum; beats Adele and refuses Clarissa care; dead by ep 6/7 (fire story on paper).
Clarissa. Adele's only friend; asthma attack in ep 5; comatose in the best hospital by ep 7 — the quiet pressure point on Adele's obedience.
Lord Esdra Della Valle. Sole heir to the Delavale name; the man Adele must seduce and marry so Cesare's family pact is satisfied through her. Present as a plan in the free arc — not yet a full on-screen courtship through ep 14.
Lucrecia Delavale. Eligible woman whose public marriage-pact claim boxes Cesare in at the start.
Madam Flavia. Strict etiquette instructor; arrives ep 11; agrees to teach after Adele argues; promises Adele will beg to crawl back to Gimora.
Part 4: Episode-by-episode guide to the 14 free
Below, what happens in each of the 14 free episodes, based on the English-audio transcription and watch-page / JSON-LD blurbs. Central beats — Nino's debt, sister con, competition cleanup, Esdra plan, Flavia, breakfast cliff — are flagged.
Episode 1
Santinari: beauty, wealth, and Gimora slums. Nino gives Adele two days to repay or Clarissa and Adele are finished. She vows to get Clarissa off the island and spots Cesare Buonaparte, the Duke. Nobles talk holy matrimony; Cesare would rather die.
Episode 2
Lucrecia Delavale is the public match; Cesare suspects a fake ancient pact but his hands are tied. Loophole: a long-lost sister to marry into Delavale. Adele steps up as a shoeshiner who bets she can become high society's most wanted lady; Cesare mocks her looks.
Episode 3
Orphan, about 20–21, no Gimora birthdays. She could pass as a half-sister. Cesare warns of imprisonment or death and refuses to house street rats — then sees her birthmark.
Episode 4
Matching marks as Buonaparte proof; hard manor deadline. Adele tries to flee with Clarissa; Clarissa will not leave her. Nino catches Adele. At the manor: no guest; Cesare can always find another girl.
Episode 5
Nino attacks Adele; Clarissa has an asthma attack and care is refused. Cesare's men arrive — follow the Duke's lead.
Episode 6
Nino claims Adele as debt property, then recognizes Cesare Buonaparte. Clarissa to hospital; Nino and associates killed. Cesare: he did not save Adele — he eliminated the competition.
Episode 7
Adele wakes at the manor. Nino is dead; associates died in a 'tragic fire.' Clarissa is comatose at the best hospital. Cesare asks who else to dispose of for House Buonaparte and tells Adele to be a good little doll.
Episode 8
Target: Lord Esdra Della Valle, sole Delavale heir. Adele must seduce and marry him so the pact is satisfied through her. One month to walk, talk, sit, and eat like a debutante — Cesare's thirtieth-birthday gala. Before the deal locks: is she still a virgin?
Episode 9
Cover story: Lady Adelaide Buonaparte, illegitimate, raised in an overseas orphanage. Pratelo and Sorella. Do not fall in love. Madam Flavia etiquette later in the week. Servants will bathe her — nobles do not wash themselves.
Episode 10
Bath: bruises and scratches; Adele begs the staff not to tell the Duke. Contract stands until the Delavale marriage. Alone, Cesare plans permanent silence — the day the shoeshine girl marries Esdra is the day she dies.
Episode 11
Sudden wake: Madam Flavia has arrived. She calls Adele a street rat and sneers about Gimora survival. Cesare says he has faith in Flavia. Adele apologizes, then argues it is the Duke's choice, not Flavia's.
Episode 12
Flavia starts that afternoon and promises Adele will beg for Gimora. Cesare summons her for a bedroom 'brother-sister' talk, needles virginity and wedding-night skills, and offers to show her.
Episode 13
Adele calls the offer inappropriate even for fake siblings and says high-society Cesare sounds like the men in the slums. He sends her to dress for sister breakfast. After hair and appearance fuss, Lady Adelaide is announced ready.
Episode 14
Breakfast: sit down; catch the older-brother role; Flavia will put her through hell — eat her fill. Cesare stares at the transformed look. Closing line: Madam Flavia has her work cut out. End of the 14 free.
