Part 1: The story of Claimed by the Prince: the Forbidden Wet Nurse
Clara's son has blue eyes, and in this kingdom only royal blood gives that color. Her landlord, Lord Roderick, shows up demanding debts her dead husband supposedly left and offers a deal Clara refuses. When he tries to take her by force, Martha throws herself in the way: "Take the child and run. Go to the castle. Find his father." Clara leaves the baby and a gold ring at the gate. At the castle, someone recognizes the prince's ring.
Gabriel has been looking for the woman from the rose garden since that night. The king wants an heir with blue eyes and gets one, wrapped in a blanket: "Sinclair blue. He's my grandson." But the baby won't feed. The physician offers a guess: he may only accept someone familiar, most likely his mother. The king offers a thousand gold coins to whoever can feed him. Clara reads the proclamation. Martha is still in Roderick's hands.
Roderick lets Clara go to the selection so he can watch her fail. At the castle, he denounces her in front of Gabriel: a widow for two years who gave birth to a bastard by an unknown father. Gabriel asks where she was that night, nine months ago. Clara lies. By episode 9, they're face to face, and neither says what they know. No spoilers for the ending.
