Moonlight City lives on dragon blood. Those who awaken the power at five join the Dragon Force and can reach Dragon Knight; the Master of the Sanctum, a post held for life, sits above them all. Hayes Hale rules the city and has two sons: Ellis, who awakens level eight, and Owen, who awakens nothing and is thrown into Dragon’s Hollow.
In the Hollow, Silas Gallon, the Master of the Dragon Knight Sanctum, saves Owen and trains him for ten years. The boy who did not have a single spark awakens the Ten Dragon God Marks, surpasses his master and seals a soul bond with Akira, an ancient dragon of the golden bloodline who looks like a lizard.
A letter from Hayes calls Owen to the annual Dragon Knight selection. The reason is not affection: a sorcerer told the father that Ellis only rises with Owen nearby. Back in the city, Owen is ridiculed, Akira is called a lizard, and Ferris, the Dragon Marshal running the selection, takes Ellis for the Master’s disciple destined to be Dragon King.
Owen signs up, hides the Marks, breezes through the Dragon’s Pressure trial and is accused of cheating. In the duel round, the draw puts him against Ellis.
